So far in this project, the Domestic Violence VR world I am acting in seems to be coming together very well. We have rehearsed and are almost ready for production. I am excited to see how it turns out. The only problem I have noticed so far in this project is the budgeting aspect of it. The fact that two people that have the same job, but one that is performing better than the other would get paid the same amount of money. Also, it feels like the project has become revolved around the fact that we have to get "paid" or stay under budget or reach a certain amount of income instead of focusing on learning and the project itself as much. I would fix this by eliminating that part; however, I do agree that we will have to worry about these kinds of things in the real world and it is important to get familiar with it.
Some strategies I find helpful when trying to work in a distracting environment is trying my best to ignore whatever is being distracting, plugging in ear phones, or simply removing myself from the distracting situation. The words of those in power can have a very large influence on our own choices. For example, celebrities can influence us to buy certain products because they supposedly use that product or political candidates can say something that may completely alter or confirm our perception of them.

In engineering, we read a reading about the future and how sooner than we think, advanced technology will nearly take over our world. Current jobs will not be needed in the future because technology will have the ability to do everything for us. The most disturbing prediction I read was the "Artificial Intelligence" one because it predicts that computers will be smarter than humans and possibly take over the world. That frightens me and makes me wonder if humans will no longer be educated in the future if computers will be able to solve all of the world's issues.
For our visual reality project, producers held a job fair where they presented their need for different jobs and all of the specialists walked around and applied for "jobs." I thought it was very organized and effective because it allowed specialists to see exactly what was able for their specific field. It probably could have been more effective if each producer had a set schedule for their project so that the specialists could apply for more than one job without worrying about overlapping their time. Throughout this process, I learned that I shouldn't doubt myself even if my field is not the highest in demand. I started out thinking that I wouldn't get any jobs, but I ended up getting all of the four jobs I applied to. I can't wait to start working! In english class, we discussed advertising and how much it has influenced our society. Advertising is everywhere and we sometimes do not realize that. It is used to sell products that we may or may not actually need. It is used to persuade us of "the best of the best". There are certain laws that restrict advertisers from making untruthful claims in their ads, so companies are obligated to use "weasel words" or words that don't mean anything specifically, but still somehow convince their costumers to buy their product, such as "helps", "virtually 100% effective", "acts fast", etc. I think restrictions should be set as to what words advertisers can use so that costumers can know what the product is going to do rather than what it might do or might not do. It is week five of the virtual reality project and in engineering, we are prepping for production within our four guilds: Video Production, 3D Modeling, Acting, and Programming. I am the leader of the acting guild. We play improv games to learn how to stay in character and we practice different emotions such as crying on command. I am confident in my acting abilities, however, since the demand for actors is not very high, I am concerned that there will not be enough jobs available for all of the actors. I do have a backup guild, which is Video Production. My goals for next week are to begin training in that field so that I can maintain a steady salary as an Actress and Video Producer. I will need to learn how to edit 360 video and how to properly film 360 Video.
In English class, we are discussing the impact of propaganda and doublespeak. What these types of languages do is alter our perception of reality and raise questions about people we are supposed to trust, such as political candidates, news reporters, and other public figures. Will we ever know the real truth or will propaganda and doublespeak take over how we see the world? Can we prevent this? Can we educate the people about how manipulative and deceiving propaganda can be. |
